I-valve yokuhlola ephakamisayo ibhekisela ku-valve evula futhi ivale ngokuzenzakalelayo i-disc kuye ngokugeleza kwe-medium ngokwayo ukuvimbela ukubuyela emuva okuphakathi, owaziwa nangokuthi i-valve yokuhlola, i-valve yendlela eyodwa, i-valve yokugeleza, kanye ne-valve yokucindezela emuva. I-valve yokuhlola iyi-valve ezenzakalelayo. Umsebenzi wayo oyinhloko ukuvimbela ukugeleza kwe-medium backflow, i-reverse pump kanye ne-drive motor, nokukhululwa kwe-container medium. Amavalvu okuhlola angasetshenziswa futhi kumapayipi ukuze anikeze amasistimu asizayo lapho ukucindezela kungase kukhuphuke ngaphezu kokucindezela kwesistimu. Ama-valve okuhlola angahlukaniswa abe ama-valve okuhlola ama-swing (ajikelezayo ngokuya phakathi nendawo ye-gravity) kanye nama-valve okuhlola okuphakamisa (ahamba nge-eksisi).
